Delivering success for Red Nose Day 2013

Armakuni Ltd is delighted to announce the successful launch of its new high-volume donations platform in support of the Red Nose Day TV show. Built by cloud-service technologies provider Armakuni Ltd., the platform allows Comic Relief to support large-scale events by utilising the best aspects of cloud technologies, whilst giving Comic Relief the flexibility to scale-up the donations platform only when needed, thus reducing annual overheads.

Due to Armakuni’s new payments platform, Comic Relief is now able to process more transactions per second than virtually any other donation system in the world. This enabled Comic Relief to raise a record-breaking £93,968,291 and counting. The platform is able to handle the unprecedented peaks generated by a TV show with an audience of 26 million. At maximum capacity it can handle in excess of 2000 donations per second. The platform is a completely elastic solution which can be scaled from zero footprint to fully scaled and deployed in hours.

Tim Savage partner and co-founder of Armakuni says: “This has been an amazing opportunity to work on a technical challenge of this scale and uses the latest advances in cloud technologies and solid continuous delivery practices to help such a worthy and high-profile cause.”

The platform’s novel approach to platform deployment, utilising Cloud Foundry Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) has allowed the Infrastructure-as-a-Service to be divided between two IaaS providers and across mutliple availability zones and regions.

About Comic Relief and Red Nose Day

Comic Relief is a major charity based in the UK which strives to create a just world free from poverty – and we work 365 days a year to help that vision become a reality.

Our mission is to drive positive change through the power of entertainment.

Since we first set up shop in 1985, we’ve been doing three main things…

  1. We raise millions of pounds through two big fundraising campaigns – Red Nose Day and Sport Relief.
  2. We spend that money in the best possible way to tackle the root causes of poverty and social injustice.
  3. We use the power of our brand to raise awareness of the issues that we care most about.

Over the years we’ve inspired a lot of people who don’t normally ‘do' charity to, well, do charity. The support we’ve had from so many friends has always blown us away – and still does today.
